Full compliance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Full compliance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Project INDEPENDENT directly contributes to nine of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals committed to be achieved by 2030.

  • Goal 2 - No Poverty
  • Goal 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation
  • Goal 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy
  • Goal 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • Goal 9 - Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
  • Goal 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • Goal 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production
  • Goal 13 - Climate Action
  • Goal 14 - Life Below Water

Goal 2 - No Poverty

Algae can grow in very different climatic conditions by adapting to harsh conditions, and thanks to their high nutritional properties, they have the potential to support the fight against malnutrition in developing countries.

Goal 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation

Algae improve water quality particularly by absorbing nutrient groups such as nitrogen and phosphorus from wastewater, while offering a circular economy practice. They can be used for the removal of heavy metals and micro pollutants present in industrial wastewater.

Goal 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy

Within the scope of Project INDEPENDENT, biojet fuel, biodiesel and green biohydrogen are produced from algae, and alternative products are offered to reduce dependence on fossil-derived products.

Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth

Project INDEPENDENT, which offers a bioeconomy-oriented growth model with an integrated biorefinery concept, develops innovative products with high additive value and provides a sustainable source of raw materials for locomotive sectors.

Goal 9 - Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

Flue gas disposal is provided for industries with high carbon dioxide emissions while the captured carbon dioxide is converted into environmentally clean, economically sustainable, value-added products.

Goal 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities

Algae, which provide nature-based solutions for reducing the greenhouse gas emissions of cities, provide nitrogen, phosphorus recovery and carbon absorption within the scope of circular cities.

Goal 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production

With Project INDEPENDENT, the footprint per GDP is reduced by using algal biomass in product groups for different sectors, while an understanding of sustainable living is promoted in staple industries, such as food industry.

Goal 13 – Climate Action

Project INDEPENDENT provides direct greenhouse gas reduction against the global climate crisis with algal biomass processed within the scope of integrated biorefinery and offers a development model compatible with environmental parameters.

Goal 14 - Life Below Water

Within the scope of Project INDEPENDENT, healthy bait practices for sustainable fishing are developed from algae, the basis of life in the oceans and seas. Carbon dioxide captured during production helps to reduce ocean acidification.
